MacKrell was last seen in the early hours of July 30, 2015, in Pompano Beach, Florida. He had spent time at Lucky’s Tavern in Downtown Fort Lauderdale before stopping at a Valero gas station at 3601 North Dixie Highway. Surveillance footage captured him at 2:32 a.m. purchasing snacks inside the store. Outside the gas station, MacKrell was involved in an altercation with an unidentified man who was a passenger in a silver sedan. The vehicle was later seen following him as he drove away. He has not been seen or heard from since. MacKrell’s car, a white four-door 2013 Ford Fusion with a missing rim on the front driver’s side and Florida license plate WJ70L, also remains missing. Since his disappearance, his phone has been turned off, and his debit card has not been used.
