Precursor I have often thought that the Alice Fay Jefferson case is one of the most mysterious and heart wrenching cases that I have ever researched. What is strange about this case too, is that it is almost eerily similar to the Kelli Cribbs Abdad case in 2011.
Circumstance: The circumstances behind Alice’s disappearance is filled with mystery, because you have the word of 6 year old Paula and 5 year old Johnny who are the children of Alice and then you have the word of Lee Jefferson who at the time was her husband. By this point in Alice and Lee’s lives, it was a unique time for them, Alice was a military spouse and Lee was a SGT in the Army, having just been in the service for a few years and at the time they were stationed at Fort Campbell Kentucky. So what happened to Alice? Well, it depends who you ask, because both Lee and the children have drastically different account of what occurred.
According to ABC 7 (2015) “Sometime between 1974 and 1975, Lee Jefferson, who is not the children’s father, comes home one day and says his wife was gone. But Jefferson does not file a missing persons report. Instead, after a couple of days, he packs some bags, loads his small step-children into the car, and drives them to their grandparents’ home in North Little Rock. He leaves, never to see the kids again.” The words “never to see the children again,” yea, these words would stick with Paula and Johnny for the rest of their lives as we will soon see. According to Lee, Alice got up one day and left for Nashville as she was speaking to someone there and wanted to be with that person and she left the kids with him.

Now here where it gets tricky, because we have seen what Lee’s word is on how she disappeared and we know what happened after she disappeared with the kids moving in with the grandmother. So what about Paula’s and Johnny version of events? According to the Charley Report from 2021 “the children remember that one day no one picked them up from school and they eventually walked home alone. They had to knock on the door for a long time before Lee finally answered, sweating and agitated, claiming he had been asleep. Alice was gone, and Lee refused to let the children into their bedroom and made them sleep with him. “ After that, the children were then taken to North Littlerock to live with the grandmother. Both of the children believe that Lee killed Alice and dumped her body somewhere.

So now we know kind of how she disappears according to Lee and the children, but this story isn’t done being written yet, not by a long shot. In 1992, Lee gets out of the military, he is an E-6. He was an E-5 at the time of the incident, so for unknown years he serves 17 years and only gains 1 rank. He gets out of the military, gets married and settles down in Lebanon PA and he doesn’t talk about Alice to anyone. In 2013, Paula and Johnny file the first official police report. Lee is questioned and he doesn’t remember and he does not want to talk about it. It was found out later that their was indeed a police report done, however, the police didn’t do anything with it, its 1975 and they likely believed that she had went to Nashvile. But theirs problems…
We know that Alice’s SSN has never been used along with other documents and theirs nothing that shows she was alive after 1975. No one can even place her in Nashville, no sightings nothing. In fact, to go further, since this case occurred on a military installation, it is up to the Army to investigate it and they no leads to go off of and in fact this case is an inactive case for them, meaning their not actively searching for clues anymore for it.

On June 8th 2024, Lee Andrew Jefferson dies in Lebanon PA he was 72 years old. In his obituary, Johnny and Paula and Alice are not mentioned. It was known that Johnny and Paula were not his kids. It was known by Paula and Johnny that Alice was having an affair while she was married to Lee. Their has been no updates on Alice’s whereabouts since the day she went missing.

    Side note:
I debated on whether or not I wanted to write this story, because its very confusing and very complex, because you don’t know for certain which side is telling the correct story. Even Lee’s death I questioned, because their was nothing written about Lee dying from Paula or Johnny. A lot of people really liked Lee and a lot of people commented well wishes on his obituary, but even after reading through all 200 of them, nothing was mentioned about Alice or her children. Whatever Lee knew or didn’t know, he took it to his grave.
