A 4-year-old boy was last seen in the Merrimack River on April 19, 2025. The Lowell Police and Fire Departments were notified at approximately 5:44 p.m. after a 911 call reported the boy in the water by the Western Canal near 300 Arcand Drive. The boy was quickly pulled by the current into the Merrimack River. An extensive search involving multiple agencies, including the Lowell Police Drone Unit, Lowell Fire Department boats and Dive Team, Massachusetts State Police Airwing and Dive Team, UMass Lowell Police, and Environmental Police, as well as firefighters from Dracut, Methuen, and Lawrence, has been ongoing. The investigation into how the boy ended up in the water continues.
