Roberts was a resident of Charlotte, North Carolina, in 1959. A divorced mother of two young daughters, she met a man who introduced himself as Charles Wegman. He claimed to be a traveling photographer, and Roberts, along with her sister, applied to work as his assistants. Wegman appeared to be in his late thirties and stated he was from Houston, Texas. On November 3, 1959, Roberts told her sister she was leaving town with Wegman. Three days later, she sent a letter postmarked from Baltimore, Maryland, saying she was doing well and would write again. However, that was the last time anyone heard from her. Her sister, with whom she had been close, conducted an extensive search, checking Social Security and driverβs license records, but found no trace of her after 1959. She eventually sent photographs of both Roberts and Wegman to the FBI. An agent later informed her that βWegmanβ was actually named Charles Dennison but provided no further details. Robertsβ whereabouts remain unknown, and her case is still unsolved.
