Carla was last seen at her family’s residence in the Eastwood public housing complex on Airport Highway in Birmingham, Alabama, on the evening of August 12, 1980. She had been watching television with her mother, who later went to bed. When her mother woke at 4:30 a.m. on August 13, the apartment doors were wide open. The living room showed signs of disruption, with chairs pushed back and an overturned soft drink bottle. Her belt was outside the front door, and all her belongings, including money and medication, were left behind. She was nowhere to be found and has not been seen since. In July 1980, Carla was reportedly abducted and assaulted by a group of men near Lake Purdy, Alabama. About a week before she disappeared, the same men allegedly visited her home but were not allowed inside. This was not reported to police until 18 years later. Carla’s case remains unsolved, and foul play is suspected.
