Sutton has been missing since November 6, 2014. He had been living with his mother but left home following a disagreement about his drinking. That day, his stepfather dropped him and a friend off at a motel on South Nevada Avenue in Colorado Springs. According to his stepfather, Sutton did not have a wallet or identification with him at the time. Later, he called his mother and mentioned meeting new people but expressed some concerns for his safety. Two months later, his mother received a letter from the Social Security Administration stating that someone had used Sutton’s Social Security number to apply for federal benefits. His sister also received a call from the agency, as the applicant had listed her as the primary contact. Someone using Sutton’s name checked into a homeless shelter on Bijou Street, though it remains unclear if it was truly him.
