Daffany left her grandparents' residence between 7:00 and 8:00 p.m., after getting into an argument with her mother over some fish sticks. She was last seen walking toward Northside Drive. At the time of her disappearance, authorities were investigating allegations that her mother's boyfriend, Ernest Lee Epps, had sexually abused her in June 1988. Daffany had told an aunt Epps had touched her inappropriately on June 29, while she was asleep. Epps was arrested on July 8 and charged with sexual battery. He was released on bail on the morning of July 26. Daffany went missing that same evening. Daffany is epileptic and did not have her medicine with her. She has pierced ears and wears her hair in a medium length Jeri-curl style. She was last seen wearing a blue and white striped shirt, multi-colored walking shorts, and was barefoot.
