Dorien lived in an apartment complex in the 1300 block of Northwest Ninth Avenue in Amarillo, Texas. On October 26, 1998, he filled his bicycle tires with air and went riding around the neighborhood. He was never seen or heard from again. His bicycle, an aqua-colored model resembling a girl’s bike, also vanished. It had small white tires and rims, white handlebars, a black seat, a chrome-colored connection pole, a rusty chain, and “Free Style” imprinted on one side. Over a year before his disappearance, Dorien was among the children who discovered the body of Gloria Ann Covington in Hilltop Park. Covington had been stabbed to death behind the YMCA. A witness reported seeing her attacked inside a light-colored pickup truck. A month later, Linda Gayle Jackson was murdered under similar circumstances after entering a vehicle resembling the same truck. Both cases remain unsolved. Authorities have not confirmed a link between Dorien’s case and these unsolved murders.
