Summary

Berry was last seen in Terre Haute, Indiana, on December 16, 2008. At the time, Berry was on probation and prohibited from possessing firearms in his home. He had given two handguns to his friend, Brent P. England, for safekeeping. Berry was reportedly on his way to England’s house to retrieve the guns when he vanished. A few days after his disappearance, Berry’s van was discovered abandoned near the Wabash River. He left behind a young son. Family members do not believe Berry would have voluntarily abandoned his child. In March 2009, Brent P. England was charged with Berry’s murder. Investigators reported finding Berry’s blood in England’s home and in the trunk of his car. During his trial, England admitted that Berry visited his home on the day he disappeared. England claimed he informed Berry that he had pawned the firearms. According to England, Berry left his house soon after. He attributed the blood in his car’s trunk to a past hunting injury Berry allegedly sustained during a turkey hunting trip. In March 2010, England was acquitted of the murder charges.
