Fraley was last known to be at her apartment at the Copperfield apartment complex in Gastonia, North Carolina on April 8, 2008. She was suffering from the stomach flu and at 1:30 a.m., Fraley called a friend and said someone was going to pick her up and take her to the hospital. She has never been heard from again. She left behind her personal belongings, and her phone was found two days later at a nearby intersection. Her fiancé’s father, Ricky Dale Simonds Sr., who had a criminal history, is a person of interest in her case. He gave her a ride to the hospital emergency room before her disappearance. Simonds refused to take a lie detector test in Fraley's case. In June 2008, Simonds’s body was found in the trunk of his ex-girlfriend’s car. She had previously filed a restraining order against him. Authorities believe Simonds hid in the trunk to ambush her but got trapped and died of heat stroke. After his death, police began to suspect his involvement in Fraley’s disappearance. Her fiancé, who was in jail at the time, is not considered a suspect, and the case remains unsolved.
