Jared Hanna was last seen by his sister on the morning of July 2, 2011, when he left his home in Jerseyville, Illinois. Surveillance footage later captured him purchasing a soda at a convenience store. His cell phone pinged near East Alton around 12:15 p.m. and later in Centralia at 9:30 p.m. before going silent. On July 4, 2011, Jared’s 1990 GMC Sierra was found abandoned and out of gas on Jolliff Bridge Road, a rural area of Centralia, over 70 miles from his home. Witnesses later reported possible sightings of him on July 3. Around midnight, a motorist saw a man walking near where his truck was later found. Another witness reported that at 8:30 a.m., a man matching Jared’s description knocked on their door, asking for directions to Centralia and a glass of water before walking east. Jared had previously worked in Centralia, and his family believes he may have been there to fish, as his truck contained a fishing pole and tackle box. In October 2011, a black shoulder bag belonging to him was found 1.5 miles from his truck beneath a deer stand.
