Jeremy attended the Coos County Fair with his nine-year-old sister on August 14, 1986. At approximately 2:00 p.m., they separated with plans to meet near the Ferris wheel at 5:00 p.m. Jeremy never arrived at the designated meeting place and has not been seen since. Terry Lee Steinhoff, Jeremy’s former babysitter, is considered a person of interest in his disappearance. Several witnesses reported seeing Jeremy sitting with Steinhoff in a truck that night. Steinhoff was uncooperative during the investigation, and in January 1988, he was convicted of stabbing a woman to death. He pleaded guilty to murder and was sentenced to life in prison, where he died in 2007.
