Brewer was last seen in Pegram, Tennessee, on May 8, 2013. A former captain with the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office, Brewer experienced mental health challenges after his law enforcement career ended. In 2011, he was involved in an incident where he believed he was a U.S. Marshal and shot at a neighbor. He was found not guilty by reason of mental defect and was admitted to the Middle Tennessee Mental Health Institute. After treatment, he was placed in a halfway house in Nashville. On the day of his disappearance, Brewer left the halfway house early, took a taxi to Pegram, and withdrew $500 from a local bank. Bank employees reported his unusual behavior, prompting them to contact the police. By the time officers arrived, he was gone. He has not been heard from since
