Their mother placed the sisters with their paternal grandparents, while their older sister, Rosetta, lived with her maternal grandmother. In 1975, the family reunited when their mother remarried, but the home was again disrupted when allegations arose that their stepfather had harmed Joyce and Josephine, leading to his removal. By 1983, the sisters moved to Norman and lived with the family friend who was granted temporary custody. It was during this time they vanished. Since their disappearance, there has been no activity linked to their names, birth certificates, or Social Security numbers.
