Karen Wells vanished in April 1994 while traveling from Haskell, Oklahoma, to visit a friend in Bergen, New Jersey. On April 12, she stopped at the Pike Motel on Harrisburg Pike in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, and called her friend at 7:00 p.m., stating that she planned to eat at McDonaldβs and then return to her room to rest. The friend offered to meet her at the motel and said she would be there by midnight. Witnesses at the motel last saw Karen at 8:00 p.m., leaving in her white 1993 Plymouth Acclaim rental car. When her friend arrived at the motel as planned, Karenβs belongings were left behind and there was no sign of Karen. At 5:30 a.m. on April 13, Karenβs car was discovered abandoned on Route 274, roughly 35 miles from the motel. The vehicleβs hazard lights were on, the battery was dead, and it had run out of gas. Both the driverβs and passengerβs doors were wide open. The car was mud-splattered and scratched. Itβs uncharacteristic of Karen to leave without warning. Police have not named any suspects in her case, but stated they believe some of the people they interviewed knew more than they disclosed.
