Esmerelda “Kit” Mora was reported missing from Omak, Washington, on April 15, 2022. According to their biological mother, Kit ran away that April, but their adoptive family and friends had not heard from them since November 2021. Kit, who is non-binary and of Indigenous heritage, was adopted by a family in Yakima, Washington, at the age of four after being removed from their biological mother’s custody due to abuse and neglect. In June 2021, they moved several hours away to Omak to reconnect with their biological family. They stayed in touch with loved ones for a few months, but in November 2021, their social media activity abruptly stopped, and all communication ceased.
