Nafar was last seen in Wichita, Kansas, on February 25, 1983. He had spent the previous night at his girlfriend’s apartment and left that morning to return to his home in southeast Wichita to change clothes. Although he had overslept and missed his morning classes at Wichita State University, he still intended to go to work later that day. Nafar never arrived home as planned. Later that night, around midnight, his yellow 1974 Chevrolet van was discovered abandoned and on fire at a car wash in Augusta, Kansas. The van’s Kansas license plate, SGM 37993, was missing and has never been recovered.
