A local school principal noticed her absence while assisting the family with cleanup after a house fire, which they had not called 911 for. Finally, in December 2021, a welfare check led to her being reported missing. Oakley had been with foster parents from 7 months old until she was 3 years old, and then returned to her biological family in 2019, who had previously struggled with substance abuse.
