Summary

Patrick Carnes was last seen on April 13, 2011, in Wells, Nevada. At around 9:00 p.m., the Nevada Highway Patrol stopped him for a traffic violation. Carnes was on his way back to Reno, Nevada, from visiting relatives in Toledo, Ohio, and mentioned to the patrolman that he was following a truck driver who was heading to Elko, Nevada. The identity of this truck driver has never been determined, and Carnes has not been heard from since. On April 14, just before 6:00 a.m., Carnes’s vehicle was discovered abandoned at the 205 Pumpernickel Valley exit ramp off Interstate 80 near Winnemucca, Nevada. It was still operational, with gas in the tank, but it was stuck in sagebrush and facing the wrong direction. All of Carnes’s personal belongings, including his checkbook, were left inside the car, with no signs of struggle. His eight-year-old dog, Lucky, a brown Akita-mix, was also missing. Carnes, a World War II veteran who served in the Solomon Islands, was in good health for his age at the time of his disappearance. He was also a former truck driver and was close to his family. His case remains unsolved.
