Summary

Achermann was last seen in Staples, Minnesota on July 24, 2009. He left his residence to run errands and was last seen on Warner Road near the Crow Wing River bridge, between 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. He never returned home and has not been heard from since. The following day, Achermann’s vehicle was discovered stuck in the mud in a wooded area near County Road 32, approximately ten miles from his home in Leader, Minnesota. Inside the vehicle, authorities found groceries he had purchased and prescription medication for his wife, but his cane and car keys were missing. The rugged, brush-filled terrain in the area would have made it difficult for Achermann to travel far on foot, even with his cane. Achermann’s family reported that he was in good health at the time of his disappearance and did not have Alzheimer’s disease or dementia. Since his disappearance, there has been no activity on his bank account or credit cards.
