Rachel was last seen watching a movie inside her family’s home near B and Albert Street in Garden City, Kansas, around 1:00 a.m. on January 16, 1995. When her mother returned home from work at 2:00 a.m., she discovered Rachel was missing. Concerned, she stayed up waiting for her. At 5:00 a.m., she heard a car outside and recognized it as belonging to Rachel’s boyfriend. At the time, Rachel was set to testify against her boyfriend, who had been charged with aggravated indecent liberties with a child. The case stemmed from Rachel’s pregnancy, which was discovered after she attempted to shoplift a home pregnancy test from Walmart. She was 14 when their relationship began, while he was an 18-year-old high school senior. After she vanished, the charges against him were dropped. Rachel missed all her prenatal appointments after her disappearance, and there is no evidence she ever gave birth.
