Hourihan was last seen in Palmyra, Virginia, on April 8, 2011. He left his home at 6:30 a.m., driving his wife’s white 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier. Although he wasn’t scheduled to work that day, he appeared to be heading to his electrician job in Richmond. Instead, Hourihan drove northwest on Route 53 and had breakfast at the E.W. Thomas Grocery Store in Palmyra at 8:00 a.m. He was planning to meet a male friend later but never arrived. This was the last confirmed sighting of him, and he has not been heard from since. On May 28, his wife’s car was found abandoned in the parking lot of a Target store in La Plata, Maryland. There was no evidence of foul play. Security footage that could have shown when the car was parked was no longer available by the time authorities located it. Hourihan was married for nearly 13 years and had a six-year-old daughter at the time of his disappearance. His wife described their relationship as close and loving and stated they had no known connections to Maryland or any explanation for why he might have traveled there.
