Spoon was last seen on August 28, 2005, in Joplin, Missouri. Around 10:00 p.m., she left the home she shared with her sister and rode with a coworker to visit an acquaintance on Pearl Street. While there, Edward G. Monroe, who lived in the upstairs unit, allegedly made advances toward her, which she rejected. Monroe later offered Spoon a ride home in his brown 1981 Oldsmobile Omega, and she left with him. However, he returned alone two to four hours later. Spoon never arrived home and has not been heard from since. When questioned by police, Monroe claimed he had dropped Spoon off at the corner of 22nd and Byers, about a block from her home. He stated they had spent the time driving around near Pearl Street. Monroe was considered a suspect in Spoon’s disappearance, but he passed away in August 2007 without being charged. Her case remains unsolved.
