Rucci was last seen at her apartment in the 6500 block of Lincoln Avenue in Lockport, New York, at approximately 9:00 p.m. on August 9, 2005. She has not been heard from since. Following her disappearance, Rucci’s apartment was found undisturbed, with no signs of struggle or missing belongings, aside from her keys. It appeared as though she had left intending to return shortly. Bloodhounds tracked her scent to a nearby skating rink, Skateland, before losing the trail. At the time of her disappearance, Rucci was scheduled to testify against her ex-boyfriend, Roger L. Hueber, a former prison guard facing multiple child sex abuse charges. She vanished just two weeks before her court appearance. Hueber later pleaded guilty to third-degree attempted sexual assault and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. He served time in prison and was released in early 2010.
