Sophie was last seen in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on May 20, 2017. Surveillance footage captured her walking alone along Davie Boulevard near the Brightline tracks, heading east past a business located between the 100 and 400 blocks of West Davie Boulevard. She left all of her belongings behind. That night, Sophie walked to an apartment in Fort Lauderdale where 37-year-old Leonard “Jay” Jennings was staying with family. Records indicate that Jennings’ phone number was one she frequently contacted. Jennings and his two brothers were questioned in connection with Sophie’s disappearance, but all three denied knowing, seeing, or communicating with her. Evidence recovered from Sophie’s computer suggests she may have been targeted by a human trafficker or an online predator. Investigators discovered that she had visited websites dedicated to connecting with “sugar daddies.” Her case remains unsolved, and foul play is suspected.
