On March 19, 1988, Stacie Madison and her friend, Susan Smalley, planned to stay at Susanβs family home in Carrollton, Texas. Around midnight, Stacie called a friend from the house. Shortly after, the two left in Stacieβs 1967 Mustang convertible. In the early hours of March 20, two young women resembling Stacie and Susan were reportedly seen attempting to buy beer at a 7-Eleven but were denied due to their ages. They were later spotted at the Steak and Ale restaurant in Carrollton, where Susan briefly entered to speak with a friend while Stacie stayed in the car. This was their last confirmed sighting. Stacieβs Mustang was later found locked and undisturbed in a strip mall parking lot at Forest Lane and Webb Chapel Road in Dallas. Her boyfriend, Kevin R. Elrod, was considered a suspect after reportedly confessing to killing the girls and burying them in a cemetery. A search revealed no evidence, and he later recanted, passed a polygraph, moved out of state, and changed his name.
