Timeka was last seen at 10:15 p.m. on May 12, 2001, in the living room of her home on South Street in La Grange, North Carolina. Her mother, Cosandra Best, was waiting for her boyfriend, Eric Earl Mercer Moore Sr., to return home. During a phone call, Moore told Best he would arrive in five minutes. She planned to end their relationship that night but fell asleep before he arrived. When she woke around midnight, both Timeka and Moore were gone. Moore is considered a person of interest in Timeka’s disappearance. Best later discovered he had prior convictions for kidnapping, assault, theft, and a sex crime. In 2006, he was convicted again of sexually assaulting a minor and sentenced to 12 years in prison before his release. Moore passed away from natural causes in October 2023. He was never charged in connection with Timeka’s case and denied being at the residence the night she vanished. However, investigators believe he was responsible. His cell phone records placed him near Timeka’s home that night, and both Best and her mother reported hearing his car outside.
