Summary
Vernon Clark Jalo was last heard from by family via the phone from his home near Iris Road/Otter Drive in Neosho, Missouri on October 30, 1996. Has not been seen or heard from since with no usage of identifying documents like social security number or drivers license. At the time of him going missing, he is described as having shoulder length brown hair, blue eyes and a mustache goatee. He was missing many teeth and his top, front, two teeth were chipped. He was 33 at the time he went missing.
In the case of Vernon Jalo, theirs some interesting things that come to mind. If you do a search of Iris Road/ Otter Drive on google maps, theirs only 2 homes within a quarter mile of that intersect, but within a half mile of that intersect, theirs a home nestled in the woods with what looks like to be a faded gravel driveway. I did a street view search and actually missed the home on several passes, however, when I did find it, the driveway is more than faded, its almost unrecognizable except for an outline of where it would have been. Theirs an old ford truck parked at the house with numerous old satellite dishes next to the home. It is hard to see the home, but it looks like its been long abandoned and I believe this is the home of Vernon Jalo. So what happened to him? Interestingly enough, during a quick google search of his name, while their was numerous websites talking about his disappearance, their was also a website (casetext.com) that talked about a criminal case against Jalo from 1990 where he was tried and convicted of *Appellant Vernon Charles Jalo was charged with the class B felony of conspiracy, § 564.016, RSMo 1986, to commit kidnapping and murder. He waived trial by jury, was tried by the court, found guilty as charged, and sentenced as a prior and persistent offender, § 558.016.2 and .3, RSMo 1986, to 20 years’ imprisonment.* (casetext.com) .* A further reading of his trial and the circumstances behind this are quite scary and disturbing. And I am going to safely assume that he was released early likely due to the appeals process. Theirs not much information on the circumstances behind his disappearance, but the Neosho police are actively working his missing persons case. Since his case is now 28 years old I wonder if his criminal history caught up to him or perhaps he left suddenly to start a brand new life for himself under a new name, or perhaps theirs other reasons why he went missing.
WOW what a dig! Great work!
