Vincent Moore was last seen on July 11, 2015, leaving his father Gary McKensey Moore Jr.'s home near 31st Street South and Hydraulic in Wichita, Kansas. Gary was with Vincent. Earlier, on June 5, 2015, Vincent and his younger brother were dropped off by their mother, Michelle Mendez, for a scheduled visit with Gary. Gary took the children to Texas, returning to Wichita on July 9, but Mendez was unable to contact him. After reporting the children missing, Gary was arrested on July 29, 2015, in Wichita, he was accompanied by Vincent’s brother, but not Vincent. Gary claimed he had returned Vincent to Mendez, but she insisted she had not seen him and passed a polygraph. Gary had a 2014 misdemeanor battery conviction involving Mendez, which led to probation violations for cutting off his GPS tracking device and marrying Mendez in violation of a no-contact order in February 2015. Mendez had expressed concerns about Gary’s care of the children, filing for a protective order in June 2015. In August 2015, Kansas Department of Child Protective Services placed Vincent's brother in foster care.
